Sign Language for Schools

Studies have shown how the use of British Sign Language promotes all areas of Child Development, Physical, Intellectual, Language, Emotional and Social aspects. The sign language workshops enable hearing children to become involved in a fun social interaction, empowering the children with the confidence to communicate using signs and gestures. The classes are of benefit to children of all ages and abilities and can also assist children with speech and learning difficulties.

The workshops also provide a fantastic foundation for raising our children’s awareness into disability and eradicating any discrimination at an early age and therefore making the community a better more inclusive place for children to grow and develop in.

School of Sign Language is delivering workshops in schools throughout the Lancashire area which includes Primary and Secondary Schools, Colleges, Higher Education, Youth and Community Centres, Private and Voluntary Organisations, Public Sectors and Individuals..

About the classes

School of Sign Language – provide quality on-site BSL tuition. Our friendly team are all highly experienced and enthusiastic about teaching this form of communication. Each team member holds a CRB Enhanced Disclosure clearance.

The classes take place in the pupil's school operating during school hours or after school, holidays / weekends

What will the children learn?

We have developed the workshops to be educational and fun. The pupils will have the opportunity to learn the alphabet, finger spelling, number signs, feelings and emotion signs, sign a song and much more exciting fun packed activity games!!

When are the workshops held?

This will depend on the individual schools/colleges. Workshops will either be delivered after school or in school time as an extra learning based curriculum. We also promote family learning especially with the Primary schools.
School of Sign Language will endeavour to meet the needs of the school and all arrangements and co-ordinating will be left wholly to the School of Sign Language.
